CROATAN NATIONAL FOREST, havelock, nc
Make sure you bring your bug spray! Located on the east coast of North Carolina, this forest was filled with insects. The trails were rugged and, at times, tough to follow, but that's what I enjoyed about this park the most. The burn marks on the bottoms of the trees were a defining feature and are a result of the common wildfires experienced in this area.

Raven Rock State Park, Lillington, NC
Located in the transition zone between the Piedmont and Coastal Plains known as the "Fall Zone," Raven Rock State Park boasts a unique beauty. "Raven Rock" is the name given to a rock cliff located on the banks of the Cape Fear River.

wIlliam b. UMSTEAD STATE PARK, RALEIGH, Nc
Located on the outskirts of Raleigh, this park is a great escape from the city. Land once used for farming is now a state park demonstrating that natural ecosystems can recover with time. Human influence can still be spotted throughout the park, but it shows how state parks can harmonize human elements with natural ecosystems.

Located in the middle of North Carolina, this park provides excellent scenery. Established by President Kennedy is 1961, the Uwharrie provides a variety of recreation opportunities and natural resources, including clean rivers and streams, diverse vegetation for scenery, wildlife habitat and wood products.
